Cozy Mystery

Announcement – Daphne McLean Merch

Hi All!

I hope all is well. I don’t have updated pictures to show you of the construction because it basically looks the same. Progress is being made, and we’re chugging along just fine.

As some of you may know, the main character in my cozy mystery series is a True Crime fanatic. It’s actually why she has the base knowledge she needed to solve her first case! I’ve partnered with a designer, who is helping me come up with some adorable True Crime related designs! These are all things Jennifer would love and use daily! So far, I have a sweatshirt out on Amazon, and I’m working on cellphone cases. New products will be added weekly, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Please feel free to shoot me any ideas based on the characters from my series. Maybe Jimmy’s Pembury Acres PD sweatshirt?

Cheers to Warmer Weather!

Hi All!

Happy weekend! The weather has been a bit warmer where I live, and it’s giving me life! I’ll take 50 degree weather all day every day. I love it.

Also, thanks to those of you who reached out to let me know what they thought about Murder at the Pawstume Party! It’s never easy to start a new series, and I’m delighted that you enjoyed it!

I had a meeting with the contractors yesterday. I wear my heart on my sleeve, so it was very difficult to mask my displeasure. They have been no call, no show since last Wednesday. We had a discussion. While it was a bit tense, and they knew I was annoyed, I *think* (hope/pray) that they got the message, and that things will be smoother sailing from now on.

Have I mentioned that we initially contacted this company a year and a half ago?

***deep breaths***

Anyway, I’m grateful for my camper kitchen, we’re blessed to have a finished basement, and one day the work will finally be complete. Long story short, I don’t have any new progress pictures for you. (Maybe next week?)

In other news, I’m participating in another free book promo!

February Vibes, Cozy Mystery Reader Tribes

Hi All,

Happy Friday! (It’s Friday, right?) This is a long one, and I promise that you’ll want to scroll to the end.

If you are from an area of the world that has winter, this is the stage where it goes from being this cozy, magical, wonderland… into a cold, muddy, mucky, mess. I’m ready for even slightly warmer temperatures. It would make having to cook in my camper kitchen a tad more bearable. LOL

For those of you who are new, (Welcome!) I’m having construction done on my house. We’ve completely gutted our kitchen, living & dining room. Demo started in early December, and that’s pretty much where we’re still at. I’m hoping a bit more progress is made next week so I can share some pictures. Right now, it just looks like a shack. 🙂

In other news, my kids and I started volunteering for this organization called Lasagna Love. We make a few lasagnas a month, and deliver them to families that we’ve been matched with. We took our little makeshift kitchen to the limit, but it provided for us and we were able to bless people in our community. If you know a family in need, or if you would like to volunteer, click the link below.

Freezing Temps and Free Books!

Hi All!

I’m in the Northeast, and it’s cold here. We finally got all of our Christmas Decorations down, and I’m enjoying our clean and decluttered home. For me, there is no better feeling than the first day Christmas decorations go up, and the day after they come down. Although, I like to wait until the second weekend in Jan to make that happen. To keep things cozy, I leave up white lights in the living room.
The construction on our Kitchen/Living/Dining area is moving slowly. They just started framing everything, and will hopefully be done with that by the end of next week. I’m still very grateful for our finished basement, and our camper kitchen.

I’ve been accepted into another anthology that is coming out this summer! It’s on pre-order now for $0.99. The price will go up once it goes live. I don’t know about you, but I’m dreaming of sandy beaches, & sun!

In other news, I got the rights reverted back to me for Murder at the Pawstume Party. I’ll be sending a link to the book to my loyal subscribers this week. If you would like a copy sign up for my newsletter below. This book is a sneak peek into the world of my new series!

How many of you joined the Cozy Mystery book club? The links to the first two books have already been sent. You still may have time to snag the one for 1/15. If you haven’t already done so, SIGN UP HERE to get two free books a month, join book discussions, meet the author & more!

I think that’s all for now. I’ll hopefully have some more progress pictures of the construction to send to you next week.

Until next time, Stay cozy!

Treat Yourself to Something Cozy…

Hi All,

If you celebrate, I hope you had a wonderful holiday. We had a quiet day at home filled with way too much food, and two happy little kids playing with all of their new toys. There is no cookie recipe round-up to share. Things with the construction got too hectic.

Today, I plan to relax, eat leftovers and squeeze in a few more Hallmark Holiday movies. Although I planned for things to be easy, yesterday still went at a frenzied pace. My kids literally would have been happy with Chicken nuggets and Pizza, but even though we weren’t having a big family gathering, I still wanted to make things special.

I LOVE the slower pace of the week between Christmas and New Years. I feel like I’ve been going non stop since a week before Thanksgiving. I plan to do a lot of board game playing, movie watching, and reflection.

As a belated gift to you, I’ve discounted my 4 book collection to $0.99! The sale lasts until 12/31/21 so snag your copy before the clock strikes twelve on New Years Eve.

My friend Reagan Davis has also discounted her collection as well so that’s seven cozy mysteries for $2!

Have a wonderful week ahead! Happy reading!

Tis the Season to get Cozy…

Hi All!

Things here have been hectic here at Daphne McLean HQ. Every year, from the week before Thanksgiving until the second weekend in December I am in non-stop party planning mode.

I’ve hosted Thanksgiving every year since the age of 19. The only two exceptions were when I was 9 months pregnant with my first kiddo, and last year when I traveled to my In Laws. Immediately following Thanksgiving, is my husband’s birthday, my father-in-law’s birthday, and then my son’s birthday. 12/5, 12/6, & 12/7. Not to mention, Christmas season is kicked into high gear! THIS YEAR we’re adding major construction into the mix.

Despite my hectic schedule, I’ve taken the time to sip on some delicious hot cocoa, watch a few Hallmark movies, and decorate as much of the house as I can. If you’ve been with me for awhile, you know that I go all out!

Once again, the holidays will be a little smaller, a little quieter, but filled with love and warm memories. I have lots to update you on. However, if you would like to see pics of my tree and some of the fun holiday things I have going on, please join my FB group! If you enjoyed my Thanksgiving recipe round-up you will enjoy my Christmas cookie round-up next week. I wasn’t planning on doing my annual bake-a-thon, but demo on the kitchen doesn’t start until Thursday… I might be crazy, but I think I’m going to go for it.

Thanksgiving Recipe Round-up!

Hi All!

You didn’t ask, but I answered. This is what I plan to make for Thanksgiving this year. Once again, we’re having a smaller gathering than in years past. I typically host upwards of 25 people, and it’s not just family. Anyone who has found themselves in need of a place to go has always been welcome at my table. Friends have become family in this way, and it’s always been a fun and festive event. I’m hoping things will normalize a bit for next year so we can resume the tradition.

I’ve been hosting Thanksgiving since I was 19. I’m now 40 something with two kids, and I’ve always made family recipes (along with one new recipe) each year. I’ve taken note of each person’s favorite side, and make sure to incorporate it into the meal. Since this year is different, I’m going to try something new. After pouring through stacks of Thanksgiving magazines with my little boys, we didn’t quite find anything that excited us. With the guest list being much smaller (6 of us), we’ve got to pare things down in terms of variety, so I wanted to make each dish count. We threw in the towel after an hour or so of searching, but I kept it in the back of my mind as I need to get to the grocery store ASAP.

Later on that evening, like a bolt of lighting, (which felt like more like a warm hug) it hit me. The boys and I would prepare a Ree Drummond Thanksgiving! We love to snuggle up and watch her show. The boys get excited every time they see a Pioneer Woman product in the store. They jump up and down and shout, “Mom it’s our favorite lady!

So it only seemed fitting that the theme for this year’s feast would be none other than the Pioneer Woman.

Thankfully, she’s been sharing some really winning recipes on her Facebook Page, and the planning was basically done for me! (THANK YOU REE DRUMMOND!)

Appetizers:

Typically, I do a zillion apps. This year, I’m going to put a small batch around lunch time. This way, the family can pick at things while I cook away in the kitchen!

Cranberry Brie Bites

Cocktail Meatballs (I might omit Sriracha)

Sausage Pinwheels

Fig and Goat Cheese Bruschetta

Main & Side:

No traditional recipes this year. All new!

Dry Brine Turkey

Brussels Sprouts and Butternut Squash

Sweet Potato Casserole

Green Bean Casserole

Stuffing

Skillet Biscuits with Honey Butter

Dessert

Last year, I attempted the Piecaken. I made the frosting ahead, and it curdled on me on Thanksgiving day. When I saw THIS RECIPE I knew I had to make it. I’m making a ton of desserts. I love pie for breakfast the morning after a holiday!

Chocolate Pecan Pie

Pumpkin Pie

Apple Pie

I’m compiling my grocery list now, and I can’t wait to get cooking! I’ll post pictures of the results in my Facebook Group. For those of you not celebrating or hosting, Here is a sweet cozy mystery deal to keep you busy.

Stay Cozy,

Daphne
