Cozy Mystery

Announcement – Daphne McLean Merch

Hi All!

I hope all is well. I don’t have updated pictures to show you of the construction because it basically looks the same. Progress is being made, and we’re chugging along just fine.

As some of you may know, the main character in my cozy mystery series is a True Crime fanatic. It’s actually why she has the base knowledge she needed to solve her first case! I’ve partnered with a designer, who is helping me come up with some adorable True Crime related designs! These are all things Jennifer would love and use daily! So far, I have a sweatshirt out on Amazon, and I’m working on cellphone cases. New products will be added weekly, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Please feel free to shoot me any ideas based on the characters from my series. Maybe Jimmy’s Pembury Acres PD sweatshirt?

Cheers to Warmer Weather!

Hi All!

Happy weekend! The weather has been a bit warmer where I live, and it’s giving me life! I’ll take 50 degree weather all day every day. I love it.

Also, thanks to those of you who reached out to let me know what they thought about Murder at the Pawstume Party! It’s never easy to start a new series, and I’m delighted that you enjoyed it!

I had a meeting with the contractors yesterday. I wear my heart on my sleeve, so it was very difficult to mask my displeasure. They have been no call, no show since last Wednesday. We had a discussion. While it was a bit tense, and they knew I was annoyed, I *think* (hope/pray) that they got the message, and that things will be smoother sailing from now on.

Have I mentioned that we initially contacted this company a year and a half ago?

***deep breaths***

Anyway, I’m grateful for my camper kitchen, we’re blessed to have a finished basement, and one day the work will finally be complete. Long story short, I don’t have any new progress pictures for you. (Maybe next week?)

In other news, I’m participating in another free book promo!

February Vibes, Cozy Mystery Reader Tribes

Hi All,

Happy Friday! (It’s Friday, right?) This is a long one, and I promise that you’ll want to scroll to the end.

If you are from an area of the world that has winter, this is the stage where it goes from being this cozy, magical, wonderland… into a cold, muddy, mucky, mess. I’m ready for even slightly warmer temperatures. It would make having to cook in my camper kitchen a tad more bearable. LOL

For those of you who are new, (Welcome!) I’m having construction done on my house. We’ve completely gutted our kitchen, living & dining room. Demo started in early December, and that’s pretty much where we’re still at. I’m hoping a bit more progress is made next week so I can share some pictures. Right now, it just looks like a shack. 🙂

In other news, my kids and I started volunteering for this organization called Lasagna Love. We make a few lasagnas a month, and deliver them to families that we’ve been matched with. We took our little makeshift kitchen to the limit, but it provided for us and we were able to bless people in our community. If you know a family in need, or if you would like to volunteer, click the link below.

Freezing Temps and Free Books!

Hi All!

I’m in the Northeast, and it’s cold here. We finally got all of our Christmas Decorations down, and I’m enjoying our clean and decluttered home. For me, there is no better feeling than the first day Christmas decorations go up, and the day after they come down. Although, I like to wait until the second weekend in Jan to make that happen. To keep things cozy, I leave up white lights in the living room.
The construction on our Kitchen/Living/Dining area is moving slowly. They just started framing everything, and will hopefully be done with that by the end of next week. I’m still very grateful for our finished basement, and our camper kitchen.

Say Cheese

Hi All!

I hope your summer is going well. I can hardly believe that it’s already mid-July! Did any of you see the frenzy online earlier this week about the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese ice cream? Well… GUESS WHO SCORED A PINT?

image

I couldn’t stop myself. The site crashed a million times, and I didn’t think that my order had gone through, but it did!

I know some of you might be grossed out, but others might be like me and are curious. So for those of you who were wondering, it tastes exactly like Kraft Cheese sauce, only creamier and frozen. I couldn’t eat more than one bite of it.

Speaking of Macaroni and Cheese, I’m including my recipe for baked macaroni and cheese below.

But first…

Books 1-3 of the Pembury Acres Mystery Series are on sale now for $0.99! (US only)

And now for the Macaroni and Cheese…

Jennifer Temple, the main character in the Pembury Acres Mystery series isn’t much of a cook. She’s learning, but the people of Pembury Acres would be very surprised to know that Jennifer’s “famous” baked macaroni and cheese dish really comes from Costco! Between sleuthing and raising a toddler, Jennifer takes all the help she can get.

While I appreciate and take advantage of store-made foods on occasion, I LOVE making my own macaroni and cheese. I choose to use Gruyere for its meltiness, and Cheddar for its flavor. Feel free to experiment with your own cheese combinations.

My kids enjoy it, and I hope you do too!

Ingredients:

1lb Macaroni of your choice. I like using Cavatappi or Medium Shells

Cheese Sauce

1.5 cups Gruyere Cheese (shredded)

1.5 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese (shredded)

1 cup Half and Half

4 Tbsp. Butter

¼ cup flour

¼ Tsp. Nutmeg

Salt & Pepper to taste

Topping

 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs

½ cup parmesan cheese

1 Tbsp. garlic

4 strips thick cut bacon cooked until crispy and chopped into bits. (Optional)

2 Tbsp. Olive Oil

¼ cup cheddar cheese

¼ cup Gruyere cheese

¼ cup fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

1.    Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease bottom and sides of a good size casserole dish.

2.    Cook pasta. Make sure to drain the pasta 2 minutes before the recommended cooking time.

3.    Make rue. Melt the butter (on Medium-Low) in a saucepan and add the flour. Cook stirring constantly until slightly brown and bubbling.

4.    Add half and half to rue. Whisk until fully incorporated.

5.    Add the Gruyere and Cheddar cheese to the hot milk mixture stir continually until fully melted.

6.    When pasta and cheese sauce are done, mix them together, and pour into prepared baking dish.

7.    Mix all topping ingredients together, (except parsley). Sprinkle on the macaroni and cheese.

8.    Bake at 325 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until topping is a golden brown.

9.    Let sit for 5-10 minutes before serving. Top with parsley and serve!

Mother’s Day Cozy Mystery Collection!

Hi All!

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy mother’s day. I hope you are all getting the love you deserve today. I realize this day might be difficult for some. Whether you’ve lost your mom, you’ve lost a child, or you want a child desperately and don’t have one.  I just want you to know, that I see you and I’m sending you a virtual hug. Do something nice for yourself today. You deserve it too.

I don’t take for granted how blessed I am. I have two amazing little ones and I’m grateful that I was chosen to be their mommy every day. That’s not saying that every day is sunshine and rainbows, we’ve had our share of tantrums and tears. I

just make it a point each day to take a breath in and remember how lucky I am. One of my biggest pet peeves is fingerprints on the windows. I can’t stand them so I’m washing a few of the kid’s favorite windows almost daily. It’s during that time that I take a moment to look at their little fingerprints and remember that one day my windows will be clean, and this moment in time will be over. I wipe them away knowing that for now, they’ll be back tomorrow.

In honor of ALL the women and mother’s in our lives, I’ve collaborated with some very talented Cozy Authors to bring to you a mother’s day Cozy collection!

Pour your self a cup of coffee, sit back and relax today. The windows can wait until tomorrow.

Authors Helping Authors – Paying it Forward.

Hi All!

I’m constantly astounded by the generosity and the general comradeship of the writing community. Need Advice? Ask away. Need your book shared on social media? Not a problem. Set up a newsletter swap when you only have 80 subscribers and they have 7000? Absolutely.

These acts of kindness are only the tip of the iceberg. We cheer each other on, lift each other up and commiserate when things don’t go exactly to plan. I’m honored to be a part of such a wonderful community.

When I was presented with the opportunity to meet with an aspiring author this week to help her out, I didn’t hesitate. This week is extremely busy for me personally, and I’ve neglected my writing in a big way. However, I didn’t pass up the chance to help a fellow writer and meet last night to discuss her journey. This has been done for me countless times in the past, and it was time for me to pay it forward. It was really a lovely meeting, and I think that I even made a new friend. Honestly, just talking about publishing, and what I was working on re-lit the fire within me. I’d say the meeting was mutually beneficial!

Things in my household are going to ramp up for one last end of school year push, and them hopefully slow down a bit so I can get back at it!

In the meantime, please check out my recommendations for the week!
