Cover Reveal…

Hi All,

It’s been a while. The end of the school year is no joke when you’re a mom of two school-aged children. I was lost in a sea of little league playoffs, moving up ceremonies,  and end of year celebrations. My oldest has now only been out of school a week, and that week was a complete blur.

We had a lovely 4th of July celebration at my house on Thursday.  Our whole neighborhood came out to celebrate, and we ended the evening with a fantastic fireworks display at our local ballfield. I will say it’s only the beginning of July, and I’ve had my fill of hamburgers, hotdogs, and macaroni salad!

I’ve picked up three books by Mary Kay Andrews and I’m sneaking in reading time when I can. Her books make for some wonderful summer reading!!!

Other than that, I’ve been slowly plugging away at my own books. Going forward, I’m not going to be giving out any timelines until I’m absolutely sure that I have a solid date. Life and the creative process are often times unpredictable. Rest assured though, I’m writing and progress is being made.

What recently ignited the fire for some very productive writing sessions was my cover designer sent me the proof for book two! I’m in love! Please let me know what you think!

I present to you…

The Next Chapter…

Hi All, and Happy Friday!

The weather here is FINALLY feeling a bit more like spring. Walking through the stores now, it’s all stuffed with summer fun, (oh hey Target). You can’t escape it. So, I’m packing my books up and heading for a girls weekend near the beach tonight. I’m so very excited. I LOVE being near the water, and I desperately need this time to recharge.

Have you ever felt depleted? Lost? Completely empty? That’s been me over the last few weeks. I’m hoping this trip will be just the thing I need to get my writing career and my overall health back in check!

I’m sitting here at a book store, sipping on coffee, and typing away. I’m basically living the dream right now. Getting up and out of the house, this morning was extremely helpful. The simple act of sitting among people, and not even interacting with them is giving me what I need to get through to the next chapter.

Getting through to the next chapter is exactly what I need right now in order to get my FREE Book, Body in the Begonias out soon. Book Two: Death at a Dinner Party, and Book Three: Body on Rugosa Bay. Book three needs to be out before the end of summer, so wish me luck!!!

As always though, I’ll happily keep you supplied with endless reads from my fellow Indie Authors to tide you over! Have a great weekend, and be on the lookout for beach pictures on my Instagram!

Mother’s Day Cozy Mystery Collection!

Hi All!

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy mother’s day. I hope you are all getting the love you deserve today. I realize this day might be difficult for some. Whether you’ve lost your mom, you’ve lost a child, or you want a child desperately and don’t have one.  I just want you to know, that I see you and I’m sending you a virtual hug. Do something nice for yourself today. You deserve it too.

I don’t take for granted how blessed I am. I have two amazing little ones and I’m grateful that I was chosen to be their mommy every day. That’s not saying that every day is sunshine and rainbows, we’ve had our share of tantrums and tears. I

just make it a point each day to take a breath in and remember how lucky I am. One of my biggest pet peeves is fingerprints on the windows. I can’t stand them so I’m washing a few of the kid’s favorite windows almost daily. It’s during that time that I take a moment to look at their little fingerprints and remember that one day my windows will be clean, and this moment in time will be over. I wipe them away knowing that for now, they’ll be back tomorrow.

In honor of ALL the women and mother’s in our lives, I’ve collaborated with some very talented Cozy Authors to bring to you a mother’s day Cozy collection!

Pour your self a cup of coffee, sit back and relax today. The windows can wait until tomorrow.

Taking a vacation…from myself.

Hi All!

I enjoyed a brief reprieve from writing and blogging, but I’m back in action. Sometimes one must take the time to step away and refresh. I binged reality television, read books, enjoyed time with my kids, and basked in lots of time in the sunshine (slathered in SPF of course!).

In essence, I took a vacation from myself, and from what usually makes me tick. It was much needed. Jennifer Temple, and Pembury Acres was far from my mind for a bit and while I missed them I needed to regroup before diving back into their world.

Oddly, I pictured them all patiently waiting around for me eager to know what they are supposed to say or do next. To my surprise, they happily went on with their lives solving murders, going for morning walks, getting coffee, & eating salami sandwiches from Lacy’s Deli. I’m the one that needs to catch up with them. Not the other way around.

I also had a great one-on-one consultation with a big name in the indie world, and I left the session feeling re-invigorated. I’ve had a few personal issues in the last few weeks that took the wind out of my sails, but I’m ready to dive back in and bring you Body in the Begonias and Death at a Dinner Party. They are both coming very soon.

Fairy tale Friday…

Hi All!

I hope everyone is well today! As always it’s been a long week, and I’m extremely excited for some downtime. My oldest just started little league and the schedule is already stressing me out. I’m a new “sports mom” and I have a feeling this will be our normal for years to come. The first game is this weekend, and I’m really excited to see my kid in uniform!

We went to the bookstore as a family yesterday for a school fundraiser, and I was in heaven!!! I bought a new book about writing mysteries that I can’t wait to delve into with some coffee on my couch!

What are all of you up to this weekend?

I’m still plugging away at Body in the Begonias, and I should hopefully have it complete by the end of this week! I guess I didn’t realize how easily Red Picket Fences flowed out of me until I tried to sit down and write another book! Remember, this is going to be a free short story for my newsletter subscribers only.  Click here to sign up for my newsletter.

In the meantime, I have another great book recommendation for you!

Luck O’ The Cozy Reader

Hi All!

Happy St. Patricks day weekend! I am so excited for soda bread and corn beef on Sunday.  I make my own Irish soda bread every year. I have the most amazing recipe from an old cookbook my mother gave me. (If you’re interested in the recipe, drop me a line!)

I typically try to make smaller loaves for my neighbors and friends, but it’s just not happening this year. Apparently, my boys decided we’re trapping a leprechaun and I need to look up how to make a trap. (Any help would be greatly appreciated) Also, we need to hide our gold and money. How did I go 30-something years without knowing all of these leprechaun rules? In any case, these leprechaun shenanigans are going to keep me very busy this weekend. I’ll only have time for one loaf.

Anyway, today is your lucky day! (Weekend) If you were on the fence about giving this indie author a chance, you can download Red Picket Fences FREE on Amazon Kindle this weekend only. I would love to have you (Yes, you) as my reader. Jennifer Temple and the quaint neighborhood of Pembury Acres are waiting…

I Wrote a Book…Now What?

I wrote a book… Now what?

So as many of you know, Red Picket Fences is set to be published (very) soon. The book is finally complete. No more re-writes, no more tweaking, editing, formatting. It’s COMPLETELY done. I was at a loss as to what to do with myself. I know that I have marketing to do (marketing plan – check!)

I’m not sure why I was feeling lost. After countless hours listening to self-publishing podcasts, reading articles and speaking with other indie authors on social media, I knew exactly what I needed to do.

WRITE. ANOTHER. BOOK.

I know this sounds insane. I just spent months writing and perfecting this manuscript. I should be sipping champagne, working through my reading pile, watching hours of reality television to just decompress. I mean I WROTE A BOOK! It’s cause for celebration! Believe me, I’ll celebrate, I’ll do all of those other things, but in order for book one to sell better, in order to keep the attention of any readers I might acquire, I need to work on book two.

So here I go, off to the abyss. Wish me luck!

Gettin Witchy with it…

Hi All!

It’s definitely been awhile. I’m happy to report that I am in the final stages of completing Red Picket Fences.

I’m learning a great deal more about the writing process along the way, and am extremely grateful to those who took the time to beta read the book! I’m now going through line-by-line to make sure I’ve got everything right!

After final edits are complete, I have to contact my cover artist to let her know the final page count and finalize the blurb that will go on the back. After the cover is finalized, I’ll hit the publish button and promptly shout it from the proverbial rooftops! (It’s coming very soon!)

Other than that, I’ve been busy getting used to our new school routine. Both of my little boys are in school now, and it’s been a rollercoaster ride since September! We’ve also squeezed every ounce of Fall/Halloween fun out of the season.

Halloween is a big deal in this house. We celebrated all day with morning trunk-or-treating, a pre-school party, the Kindergarten parade, having a bash at my house for all of the kids, then finally walking around the streets of my charming little neighborhood gathering more loot. It was one of the best day’s I’ve had in quite some time. In fact, I’m a bit sad that Halloween is over!

If you’re like me and could immerse yourself in Witches and Vampires year round, are in need of a new Cozy Mystery to read, please check out The Case of the Power Spell: A Hillcrest Witch Mystery by Amorette Anderson.

Case of the Power Spell

Buy it on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2SACKsO

“What’s your biggest fear? For amateur witch Penny Banks, it’s failure.

Business is slow for Penny, the only PI in a small box-canyon town nestled in the mountains of Colorado. When the town mayor offers Penny a case, she can’t turn it down.

While Penny struggles to unravel the case, she also has to figure out if she’s really capable of working magic. An ancient book told Penny that it was her destiny to become a witch, but if that’s true wouldn’t she be better at it?

It’s a good thing Penny’s knitting circle is willing to lend a hand!

A hunky vampire, a blue-haired rival witch, and a high-maintenance Chihuahua named Blueberry Muffin help (and hinder!) Penny along the way.”

That’s all for now! Let me know what you think of the book, and please share with me how your Halloween went. Do you have any special traditions? I’d love to hear about it!

Stay Cozy,

Daphne
